Council on €3,000 trip to the Big Apple

Laois County Council’s top official and Cathaoirleach will travel to New York for the St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16, at a cost of €3,000.

The County Manager Peter Carey and the Cllr Paul Mitchell, will travel at the invitation of the President of the Co Laois Association New York, Michael Dunphy, according to Director of Services Anna Marie Delaney.

The council had to cut their spending by almost €6 million this year and Cllr Mitchell enouraged people to buy a christmas gift of the household charge.

Nearly three weeks after the Leinster Express asked if there weres the council responed.

“The visit provides the opportunity for the Laois delegation to contact various agencies based in New York such as trade and tourism boards and a number of key meetings will be held during their stay with business and cultural interests,” Ms Delaney said.

She said the visit was also an opportunity to meet Laois Association members and renew contacts with Laois, in the year of The Gathering.
