Council plans extra parking fines

LAOIS County Council is looking to increase its intake from parking fines by n30,000 for 2010.

The local authority achieved its target of n150,000 in 2009 and has now increased its target to n180,000 for the coming year.

This may be explained in some part by the recent introduction of a paid-parking regime in Portarlington. This follows on from the extension of paid-parking areas in Mountmellick in recent years, which has contributed a significant income stream for the council.

The income from parking fees reached its projected target of n900,000 last year with the council now looking to net an additional n60,000 this year.

This will bring the total income from paid street parking and parking enforcement above the one million euro mark to n1,140,000.
