Daylight burglary in Port

An opportunistic thief entered a house in Railway Mews, Portarlington, through the unlocked back door last Saturday evening, while the occupant of the house was there.

After the homeowner confronted him, the thief took off with a purse containing €25.

Port Gardaí are investigating the burglary, and have advised homeowners to lock their doors, despite the bright summer evenings.

“People should lock all their doors, once they are in for the night, even when it’s bright, and be more cautious,” a spokesperson from the station said.
