Drank whiskey in the street

A MOUNTMELLICK man caught drinking whiskey in the street has been ordered to complete an alcohol awareness course.

Darren Gorman, Derrycloney, Mountmellick, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening behaviour in public, at the Abbeyleix Road, Portlaoise, on February 11.

Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that Gorman became highly abusive toward gardaí when they took the open bottle of whiskey away from him.

He has no previous convictions.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client wouldn’t normally drink excessively, but he had been out socially on the night.

The matter was put back to July 19, for Gorman to produce evidence he has completed an alcohol awareness course.
