Drug money donated

A MAN who had his application opposed by gardaí for the return of over €2,000 under the Police Property Act last week asked the district court to donate the money to charity.

Jason Guilfoyle, with an address listed at The Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, was seeking the recovery of €2,300, but Inspector Martin Harrington said that the State were opposing the application as the funds were part of a drugs seizure.

In that event, Guilfoyle asked Judge Catherine Staines to give the money to charity.

The judge ordered that the full amount be donated to Merchant’s Quay in Dublin. She also made an order for a number of items to be returned to Guilfoyle which had been seized as police exhibits, including photographs of his child’s christening.
