Drugs and blades found on addict

A PORTLAOISE man who was caught with drugs, Stanley blades and scissors on his person has been sentenced to four months in prison.

John Dunne, 5 Colliers Lane, Kilminchy, Portlaoise, was arrested at Colliers Lane on January 28. Cannabis valued at €50 and three Stanley blades were found on him, while a further search at the garda station revealed a pair of scissors.

The court heard from defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick that 35-year-old Dunne has a chronic heroin addiction and is currently serving a sentence, with a release date of September this year. He is not receiving any treatment for his addiction.

Ms Fitzpatrick said that Dunne, who had been arrested outside his own home, had the blades and scissors in the pocket of his jacket, as he had been fixing electrical wires in his house earlier that day.

Dunne was sentenced as outlined.
