Emo GAA dinner dance could get funding under The Gathering

LAOIS has one of the smallest uptakes on events for the Gathering so far, but one of the events in line for funding is the Emo GAA dinner dance, due to be held on February 16.

Speaking about the merits of a GAA event getting Gathering funding, Laois Tourism Officer Dominic Reddin told the Leinster Express that this was a re-union event for ex players and team mates who were living abroad.

He said that the event, along with other ones posted on the Gathering website, could receive funding from Failte Ireland, based on how many people from abroad the event would attract.

For example events that bring 10 people can receive €500, and events that bring 50 people could receive €2,500.

Mr Reddin said that Laois has a number of events still to go up on the website and these would be online in the next two to three weeks.

He added that elements of well known Laois events such as the Ossory Show and the Rose of Tralee festival would be included in the Gathering.

Mr Reddin said that events are still being planned for the Gathering and that a small amount of funding can be obtained through the county council, however this cannot be guaranteed at this late stage.

Not all events listed on The Gathering’s website automitically get funding but are promoted.
