Equipment needed for new Mountmellick playground

Needed for the new playground at Irishtown - swings and see-saws. So agreed Mountmellick Town Councillors at their September monthly meeting. They also pressed for a pedestrian crossing to serve the facility.

The swings and see-saws were needed badly, insisted Cllr Bobby Delaney.

Deputy Co Manager Ian McCormack replied, “I will come back to you before the next meeting.”

Cllr Michael Gormley pursued the case for a pedestrian crossing.

Chairman Cllr Pat Bowe revealed, “It’s an ongoing process. To find the funding is the problem.”

Cllr Paddy Bracken pointed out that an application has been made to the NRA (National Roads Authority).

Cllr Rosemary Whelan wondered could playground equipment be “rotated” from one area to another.

Cllr Marc Connolly commented, “It’s ridiculous to have equipment in Smith’s Field. I fully agree with removing some of it.”

Cllr Ollie Payne told of seeing youths drinking in Smith’s Field and standing up on the highest piece of playground equipment.
