Fake driving licence bought online
A CHINESE national who drove with a licence he had obtained over the internet was among the people charged with motoring offences at last week’s district court in Portlaoise.
Zhuoihui Wu, 111 Rossvale, Portlaoise, was caught driving without a licence, at the Abbeyleix Road, Portlaoise, on March 18.
Defence, Mr Philip Meagher, explained that his client, a Chinese national who has been in Ireland for ten years, had an international licence.
Garda Kieran Mahony replied that the licence was one the defendant had “bought off the internet”.
Wu was fined €200.
Also before last week’s court was Michelle O’Shea, of 51 The Grange, Borris Road, Portlaoise, who was charged with driving without tax or insurance, at Park, Stradbally, on January 11.
Defence explained that the car had been off the road, but O’Shea “absentmindedly” got into it on the day. Defence claimed that O’Shea needed her licence for work and to drive her parents around.
She was fined €300.
Aidan Heary, Aughanure, Ballylinan, was charged with having two bald front tyres on his car, at Clonadadoran, Portlaoise, on May 30.
Garda Keiran Mahony explained that one tyre was very bad, with wire coming out, while the other was down to the bare thread.
Heary was fined €100.
Joseph O’Connor, 5 Old Forge Crescent, Newline Road, Mountrath, was charged with the non display of tax disc, at Clonenagh, Mountrath, on April 3.
He was fined €200.
And Nicola Colbert, 34 Canal Court, Portlaoise, was fined €100 for no NCT, at Clonad, Portlaoise, on May 7.
