Fire station a 'glorified garage'

THE library site at Irishtown should be used to get funds for a new fire station, proposed Cllr Pat Bowe at Mountmellick Town Council monthly meeting last Thursday night. Cllr Paddy Bracken seconded.

"The firemen are working with no showers, no facilities, no nothing," stated Cllr Bowe.

Cllr Denis O'Mara: “It's an absolute disgrace that the lads have no facilities. It (fire station) is only a glorified garage over there."

Cllr Marc Connolly: "We are crying out for a park there (library site)."

Deputy Co Manager Declan Byrne suggested that Councillors should look for a new fire station.
