Flooding preventation

THE road gullies at several spots across Portlaoise estates will be cleaned by the county council to prevent possible flooding.

The decision was announced at the recent town council meeting, in response to a motion from Cllr Caroline Dwane to carry out maintenance to prevent flooding at Harpers Lane Knockmay, O’Moore Place and Liogard.

“It was a very wet summer and the culvert on Harpers Lane blocked causing flooding,” she said.

Farhan Nasiem, town engineer, said that the work would be carried out.
