Garda murder abhorred

The Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, should be told to close no more Garda stations, insisted Cllr Michael Gormley at Mountmellick Town Council monthly meeting last week.

Proposed by Cllr Paddy Bracken, seconded by Cllr Bobby Delaney, Councillors extended a vote of sympathy to the family of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe and expressed abhorrence at his murder.

“It’s very sad to see a man who was doing his duty defending people gunned down and murdered,” said Cllr Gormley.

Cllr Marc Connolly: “The Gardai need our full support, and they have our full support. I hope the Minister reopens the Gardai Training Centre in Templemore.”

Cllr Stephen Lynch: “It’s a very sad day. It’s getting too serious.”
