German pleads guilty to hiding murdered man
This small wooden cross still marks the spot where the remains of Thomas Thompson were recovered on the 22nd. of January 2008, just off a scenic woodland walk a short distance from Portlaoise town. Mr Thompson originally from Yorkshire had been reported missing from his Portlaoise home in April 2007.
A German national who pleaded guilty to assisting with the removal and concealment of a man’s body is to be sentenced next February.
Joachim Pohl (28) with an address at 12 Linton Place, Kilkenny pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to knowing/or believing Armin Wielderhold, of the same address, committed an offence and pleaded to assisting with the removal and concealment of the body of Mr Thomas Thompson of Borris Road, Portlaoise on the 20th-21st April 2007.
He also pleaded guilty to the removing of the personal affects of Mr Thomas from his house.
Mr Thomas (59) was originally from Yorkshire in England and had worked as a plastering contractor in Ireland for several years.
Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded Pohl on continuing bail for sentencing next February 4th.
