Give local guys work

LAOIS County Council should reduce the indemnity required by contractors carrying out work for the council, to allow small local contractors to tender for work.

So said Cllr Alan Hand, who pointed out that the current levies of €6.5 million and €13 million are well beyond self-employed contractors.

“The small, local guy should be considered,” he told the recent Portlaoise Town Council meeting.

Cllr Willie Aird said that there is a list of local contractors in County Hall, but some never get called as there isn’t enough work for them.
