Homecare firm job boost for Laois

WHILE live register figures remain high, Laois is poised for a welcome jobs boost as homecare provider Bluebird Care expects to have a workforce of twenty-five employed in the county by the end of 2013.

Director of Bluebird Care Laois, Caoimhin Armstrong explained that many of the new positions will come on stream over the next six months and will be open to care assistants and support workers.

“We will add at least ten more jobs in Laois over the next six months in addition to the six already created,” outlined Mr Armstrong who ‘conservatively predicts’ there will be up to twenty-five people employed by the end of next year.

Bluebird Care opened an office at Grattan Street, Portlaoise last March and Mr Armstrong pointed out.

“We have seen a huge upturn in business and our customer based is expanding and now includes Durrow, Abbeyleix, Portarlington and Mountmellick,” he said.

The positions being created in Laois are part of a national job creation plan being rolled out by the company.

Bluebird Care Operations Director Eddie O’Toole outlined, “We currently employ just short of 800 people nationwide. The creation of a further 510 positions will help us fill the increased demand for home care services in Ireland.

“In the current economic climate we are delighted to be able to create these new jobs.”

A recent report by the Carer’s Association suggested that in order to manage the current carer to cared-for population ratios, Ireland will need an additional 44,289 carers by 2021.

Bluebird Care is a franchise operation and was set up in Ireland in 2007 with one office. It now has 18 offices nationwide, including Portlaoise.
