‘Huge flaws’ in Woodgrove
LAOIS County Council may have to take enforcement action against the developers of Woodgrove Lawns, as the company has gone into liquidation leaving a number of outstanding works to be completed in this Portlaoise housing estate.
Cllr Caroline Dwane last week called for an update on the taking in charge of Woodrove Estate and Woodgrove Lawns. She said that there had been up to ten lights not working in the area, but she acknowledged that a lot of work had recently been done and she praised the local residents association for their endeavours.
Among the outstanding works to be completed at Woodgrove Lawns are missing or broken lights, a missing footpath and missing curbing. Cllr Dwane described the site as “an eyesore” and said that the council need to take a tougher stance with AIB, the bank responsible for the estate’s bond.
Cllr Alan Hand said that many residents had complained of sewage coming back into their homes and he described the situation as very distressing.
Cllr Willie Aird asked how the infrastructure for the estate was passed by the planning department, as there were “huge fundamental flaws” with the design.
In a response from the planning department, it was said that Laois County Council has called in the bond and received the money in respect of Woodgrove Estate. With regard to Woodgrove Lawns, the company who developed this site is in liquidation and the council are currently considering the possibility of enforcement action against the individual directors of this company.
