GARDAÍ have confirmed that the body discovered during a planned search operation at Timahoe Road, Portlaoise yesterday is that of missing person Aoife Phelan.
The family of the 30-year-old Ballyroan au pair formally identified her body after the completion of a post mortem examination at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.
Gardaí outlined that the results of the post mortem aren’t been made public for ‘operational reasons’.
Ms Phelan, who was four months pregnant, went missing in Portlaoise 13 days ago.
A 24-year-old man, who was rearrested yesterday evening in connection with Ms Phelan’s murder, remains in custody at Portlaoise Garda Station.
Floral tributes to the 30-year-old have been placed on the Timahoe Road across from the site where her body was recovered and the Phelan family are being comforted by neighbours and friends.
