A family syndicate from Laois brought seven weeks of intense speculation to an end when today (Thursday, October 18) they collected a cheque for €8,638,029 – the 17th largest ever Lotto jackpot win in the National Lottery’s 25 year history.

The family syndicate, who wish to keep their win private, will share the jackpot equally.

The €8 quick pick winning ticket was for the Lotto draw on Wednesday, August 29 and it was purchased in Moran’s, Main Street, Abbeyleix the previous Friday evening, August 24.

It was the first Lotto jackpot winning ticket to be sold by Moran’s.

The winning numbers were 12, 24, 26, 34, 35 & 42 (with 44 being the bonus ball).

“I always buy a Quick Pick for the Lotto,” smiled the spokesperson for the syndicate. “I can’t believe I’ve finally won – it’s fantastic to be able to share my good fortune with my family.”

The delighted syndicate do not have any plans for the winnings as yet but intend to enjoy it.

The largest recorded Lotto jackpot win was from June 28, 2008 by the Dan Morrissey syndicate in Carlow, a 16 member group who won €18, 963, 441.
