Loan sought for Rosenallis Cemetery

GOVERNMENT funding has been sought to carry out an extension of Rosenallis Cemetery, the recent Mountmellick Electoral Area meeting heard.

Cllr David Goodwin had sought an update on the proposed extension to the cemetery. Director of services, Declan Byrne confirmed that the council has applied for a loan to carry out these works in 2010, and are awaiting the outcome of the loan application.

"It will be a big job," Cllr Goodwin said.

"The cemetery is filling up, as we all know," Cllr Seamus McDonald said.

The summer months would be the ideal time to get the work done, Cllr Goodwin said, rather than later in the year when "the land is a swamp".

The meeting heard that a similar extension was recently carried out on the graveyard nearby in Killeigh.
