Stradbally native Maurice Deegan will take charge of this year’s All-Ireland SFC final between Mayo and Donegal after Croke Park.
His appointment completes an impressive double, as he was also chosen to referee the Allianz NFL Division 1 final earlier this year. It will be his second All-Ireland final, having made his debut back in the 2008 decider between Kerry and Tyrone.
There was cause for double celebration for Laois referees too, as Courtwood’s Eddie Kinsella will be as a linesman for the final also, with David Coldrick from Meath completing the line up. Deegan’s umpires for the final have also been confirmed, with Kevin O’Brien (St Josephs), Sean Langton (St Josephs), Alan Abbey (Stradbally) and Richard Oxley (Timahoe) set to feature on the day. It will be a particularly special day for Oxley, who missed out on the chance to umpire at the 2008 final when Deegan had to choose four of his five regular umpires.
Laois will also be represented at this weekend’s All-Ireland minor hurling final, where Anthony Stapleton will be linesman and standby referee for the meeting of Tipperary and Dublin.
