Nurses to meet Muiríosa on services

Nursing unions will meet management from the Muiríosa Foundation today (Wednesday) to discuss concerns regarding redeployment of nurses, and pay problems for staff.

According to Derek Reilly of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), the Muiríosa Foundation, which runs disability services throughout the midlands, sent a letter to management last week stating that there was a payroll problem and that they were running out of cash to pay staff.

“They said that they wouldn’t be able to meet staff wages and that they may redeploy staff and review and change rosters,” he said.

Mr Reilly said that this would be unworkable as the foundation had already lost 120 staff over the last three years.

“The agency bill is very high, and it would be cheaper to hire people. They are better off recruiting than using an agency,” he said.

Mr Reilly said that the foundation would have a €1.2 million deficet by the end of the year.

“We are very concerned as they never engaged with the unions on this, we heard about it by chance last Friday”.

The SIPTU and IMPACT trade unions are also due to meet the foundation.
