Portlaoise rugby player sold cocaine
A PORTLAOISE rugby player caught with cocaine and cannabis has been put on probation.
Killian O’Connor, Ryland, Colliers Lane, Portlaoise, was detected with the drugs at his home on May 12.
He faced charges of sale or supply and possession of drugs.
Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that a garda search of the defendant’s home revealed three wraps of cocaine worth €350, and a tin containing cannabis herb valued at €100.
A set of digital weighing scales was also found. The inspector said that O’Connor admitted the drugs were his and he also admitted selling the drugs over a six month period.
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client, who is 19 years old, had been dealing to feed his own habit.
“He made poor choices that led to his offending,” she said.
Ms Fitzpatrick said that O’Connor has since taken up residential treatment and his arrest was “a blessing in disguise” as he has now tackled his drug issues and has enrolled on a health and fitness course.
The matter was put back to September 13 for a probation report.
