Probation for having tablets

A PORTLAOISE man detected with diazepam tablets in his possession has been put on probation at the district court.

Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that Eoin Connolly, with an address listed at 3 Oak Lawn, Portlaoise, was found with 49 tablets valued at €50, at the Dublin Road, Portlaoise, on April 4.

He has previous drugs convictions, including a charge of having drugs for sale or supply.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client had previously served a sentence and was released from prison drug free. He tried to remain clean but detoxed on methadone and ended up back on heroin. He now has difficulties with Valium, Ms Fitzpatrick said.

Judge Staines put the matter back to March 7 2013 for a probation report.
