THE need for traffic calming measures to ensure the safety of those using the new playground in Rathdowney was highlighted at the Borris-in-Ossory electoral area meeting by Cllr John King.

“We need a low speed ramp or signs as cars are parked on footpaths and we’ve children crossing the road. The playground is going very well, better than we anticipated, although things have eased off since the schools re-opened,” stated Cllr King.

Senior Executive Engineer Michael Malone pointed out that the playground is located within existing school signage and school warning lights but that the Road Design section will be requested to assess the location for possible further measures.

A reduced speed limit or raised pedestrian crossing are among the measures that may be considered.
