Roscrea man shouted in the street without shoes or shirt
A ROSCREA man who drunkenly ran into a telegraph pole while attempting to flee the gardai after he was detected shouting in the street in the early hours of the morning without any shoes or shirt on has been given community service.
Stephen Curley, The Pike, Ballingarry, Roscrea, was observed by gardaí on Main Street, Mountrath, at 6.40am on July 22 last year. Garda Michael Kenneally told last week’s district court in Portlaoise that Curley was not wearing any shoes or shirt, when he was seen standing in the road roaring and shouting. He was highly intoxicated and became aggressive toward the gardaí when approached, refusing to leave the scene when directed. Garda Kenneally went to arrest him, but Curley ran away and the garda was forced to give chase. In his attempts to flee, Curley fell and crashed into a telegraph pole.
He has six previous convictions for public order offences and is already on a probation bond on other matters.
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said that Curley continues to work with his probation officer and there are concerns about his behaviour and lack of recollection on the night.
Ms Fitzpatrick said that Curley believed there may have been an altercation earlier in the evening during which his runners were taken, and at some point he lost his shirt.
The matter has gone back to march 14 for a community service report.
