Roscrea woman hid drugs
A ROSCREA woman who tried to smuggle drugs into the Midlands Prison has been given a suspended sentence.
Ann Marie Delaney, of 66 Sheehane, Roscrea, committed the offence on February 8 last year. Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that Delaney tried to conceal cannabis resin and diazepam tablets. When arrested, she admitted intending to pass the drugs to her husband, who was a prisoner in the Midlands Prison.
Defence, Mr Declan Breen said his client had started the day with no intention of bringing drugs into the prison. However, she met a woman in the prison car park who asked her to pass the drugs onto Delaney’s husband, with the plan being that her husband would then pass them onto another prisoner. Mr Breen said Delaney agreed without thinking.
Delaney was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years.
