Row with wife leads to drink driving
A PORTLAOISE man convicted of drink driving drove because he’d had a row with his wife over his drinking.
James Donoghue, 7 Buttercup Avenue, Esker Hills, Portlaoise, was detected with 75mg of alcohol on his breath at the Dublin Road, Portlaoise, on April 15.
Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said his client’s wife had been away for the evening so Donoghue consumed a number of cans of beer at the house. When his wife returned she found him worse for wear and an argument ensued, as he had previously made a commitment to her about his drinking.
“He foolishly left the house,” said Mr Meagher.
Donoghue was fined €300 and disqualified from driving for two years, with Judge Staines agreeing to postpone the disqualification until August 1 as Donoghue and his wife are expecting a child in June.
