Severe overnight weather wreaks havoc for Laois commuters
HEAVY rainfall and lightning has caused much difficulty for Laois commuters this morning (Monday, August 13).
Due to lightning, signalling has been affected at Portarlington railway station and there are delays of up to 30 minutes in both directions to services.
This includes Cork/Dublin, Portlaoise/Dublin, Galway/Dublin and Westport/Dublin train services.
Iarnród Éireann has apologised for the inconvenience causes to rail users.
Flooding is also a major problem for motorists following the thunderstorms and AA Roadwatch are warning motorist to “reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Only drive through water if you know it’s not too deep for your car.”
The M7 Dublin/Limerick Rd has reopened between J18 Portlaoise West and J21 Borris in Ossory following a crash and a subsequent fuel spill. However one lane of the northbound carriageway remains closed for the time being. Motorists are advised to drive with care in the area.
Flooding in the left lane of the M7 both ways between J19 M8 and J21 Borris in Ossory. Motorists will have to get into the right lane.
The Ballycolla/Borris in Ossory Rd (R434) is impassable.
Severe flooding on the Durrow/Roscrea Rd (R434) on the Ballycolla side of Aghaboe. The road is passable with extreme care.
Heavy flooding on the Durrow/Horse And Jockey Rd (Old N8/R693) in Cullahill.
The Durrow/Cashel Rd (old N8) is closed at Johnstown due to severe flooding in the area.
The Rock Rd (R445) is also impassable.
