Smuggled drugs for father

A KILDARE woman who tried to smuggle drugs into the prison for her own father has been put on probation.

Suzanne Tyndall, 935 St Patrick’s Park, Celbridge, was searched going into the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, on March 16 this year. Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that when she emptied her pockets she handed over 40 diazepam tablets, which had been sourced on prescription using her father’s name.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said that his client had received word from her father, who was serving a sentence for armed robbery, that he wasn’t feeling well and was not getting the proper medication. Feeling under obligation and under pressure, she immediately agreed to purchase the drugs and bring them in.

“It was obvious from her demeanour she was extremely nervous,” Mr Meagher said.

The matter was put back to November 15 for a probation report.
