Sold drugs to friends

A MOUNTMELLICK man who admitted selling drugs to his friends was last week put on probation.

Emmet Ward, Acragar, Mountmellick, was stopped driving at College Avenue, Mountmellick, on May 4 last year. A search of the car revealed cannabis worth €3,049 which Ward admitted he had for sale.

Defence, Mr Declan Breen said his client had begun using cannabis before he “moved through the different phases of drug taking”. Mr Breen said that Ward had difficulty meeting his debts, so he made the voluntary decision to sell the drug to a small group of friends.

Judge Catherine Staines put the matter back to July 12 and said she wants to see a probation report before she considers sentencing.
