Spring summer fashion trends
It's that time of the year again; we are contemplating clearing out our winter woollies and writing our Summer Wish list! So at a time when we are all being extra discerning when it comes to splashing the cash, Stylefish's Julie is helping people to brush up on their homework before breaking out the plastic.
Investment pieces that you will have in your wardrobe long after the summer holidays was a key look on the catwalks, thsi year. From classic high waisted trousers at Celine to classic tailoring at Calvin Klein. Think great wardrobe staples in neutral colours. This will be the start of the new you for summer. Crisp, sharp and utterly elegant!
Prints and floral were all over the catwalks and the High Street is following suit. Expect fabulous floral cardis everywhere. The key to this look is to wear one piece of print and try to keep everything else minimal. The tunic is great for this look with a lightweight breathable fabric that also hides a multitude. Look to Monsoon for styles like this.
Colours to look out for are definitely summer pastels, lots of nudes, pinks, and coral with the bolt of colour coming in the form yellows & blue with lots of shades from petrol to cobalt in the mix. Mixing prints and patterns is also a key look this season. If in doubt choose one piece like a summer dress rather than clashing Items.
The structured blazer is a must have in every girls wardrobe. For instant chic it can be worn over jeans to dress them up and over a pretty summer floral dress to give it a bit of edge! Zara have some amazing cotton ones in black and grey. Penneys do great versions also. The sailor theme will be big this season also and A wear have some good key pieces for this look. Think mixing colours like navy, white and red for maximum impact and also for quite a classic fun look. Cowgirl looks will also feature with a good tan belt, great pair of jeans and perhaps some fringing to bring you into this bygone era with style! Look for pieces which will transcend the trend which is always the case with good denim!
The classic shirt dress is another Investment buy we should all look out for. It is perfect for summer casual teamed with a simple cardi and ballet flats. The Maxi dress will be your best friend this season offering casual chic and comfort all in one. Be careful with the cut as usually keeping it simple in style works better especially if you are small. Not too many ruffles at the end which will shorten your body.
Finally; ruffles, ruffles everywhere. Be careful with this one as less is often more. Combining the ruffle with the floral look is a key trend. If you prefer to keep it simple look for Items with ruffles as an accent such as around the neckline or look for accessories to help you work the look such as a ruffled purse!
