Stole from UN Veterans

A PORTLAOISE woman has been ordered to pay back the money she stole from the local UN Veterans club in Portlaoise.

Donna Mahon, 7 The Old Mill, Portlaoise, was charged with theft from The Irish UN Veterans Association, Fort 27, Portlaoise, on November 1 last year.

Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that Mahon stole a money box containing €100. None of the money was recovered.

Defence claimed that it had been a spur of the moment offence and as Mahon was on social welfare, she was unable to pay the money back.

Judge Catherine Staines ruled that the money had to be paid and the matter was put back to March 7, for Mahon to pay €120. Judge Staines also ordered a probation report on the defendant.
