LAOIS County Council has refused the extension of the duration for planning permission for houses and a creche at Athy road and Church Lane in Stradbally.

The planning permission, in the name of Mr Finbarr McGloughlin c/o BMA Planning, 128 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin, was for the development of 255 residential dwellings and a creche.

The present planning permission on the Athy road site is due to expire on July 16, 2013 and no further planning permission will be granted. Welcoming the decision of the Planning Authority, local councillor, James Deegan said the scale of the development would far exceed the housing demands of the local area.

He also added that the development, in its present form, uses all the available capacity in the Stradbally Waste Water Treatment Plant and thereby would prohibit any further development in the immediate area.

The Stradbally councillor said that the development in its present form runs contrary to the principles of the Laois County Development Plan.

Cllr Deegan added that one of the major objections to the site was the fact that the developer didn’t adhere to any of the social obligations as set out in the conditions of the original planning permission. Furthermore, he said it was deemed contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.

According to Cllr Deegan this decision now opens a window of opportunity for the needs of the local schools and voluntary groups to be accommodated in order to enhance their already-cramped amenities.arges.
