Taxi fare not paid

A STRADBALLY man who ran off without paying a taxi fare was fined at last week’s court.

Gerard Lalor, Coolnabacca, Stradbally, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening behaviour, at Lakeside Gardens, Kilminchy, Portlaoise, on January 3.

Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that gardaí received a call from a taxi driver reporting that a man had ran off without payment. Gardaí observed the defendant in the area out of breath and when they stopped him he became highly abusive and refused to give his name.

He has 14 previous convictions for similar offences.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client had previously had a bad experience with the taxi driver in question.

Lalor was convicted and fined €300.
