Uninsured driver was just learning

“HOW would you feel if one of your children was knocked down by an uninsured driver?” asked Judge Catherine Staines, last week chiding a Mountrath woman convicted of driving without a license or insurance.

Naomi Kavanagh, of 28 Moanbaun Close, Woodbrook, Mountrath, committed the offence at Moanbaun on May 2 this year.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher explained that Kavanagh had been learning to drive at the time and was practicing in the estate.

He said that Kavanagh, who has young children, was putting money aside to get a provisional license and insurance.

Judge Staines fined Kavanagh €300 and disqualified her from driving for two years.
