Video coverage of Six Nations

IRELAND’S rugby squad may not have got their Six Nations campaign off to the ideal start but this year’s championship is breaking new media ground regionally in Ireland with video coverage of the competition provided for the first time to newspapers in the Johnston Press group by Irish content creator Ballywire.ie.

Each match week, video coverage of team news, interviews and views from key players will help regional readers keep up to date with insights from the Irish camp in what is a regional first in Ireland. The material is being provided by digital content creator Ballywire.ie which has an unrivaled reputation for delivering broadcast quality content to the web.

According to company founder and Tipp native Paul Collins: “Ballywire introduced the concept of original Irish news video in 2007 and the partnership with Johnston Press is one we are really excited about given the group’s reach across the country. As the saying goes, all news is local, and with Ireland’s provinces doing so well in European rugby, there is no reason why regional readers who get up to the minute information on their native place from the relevant local newspaper website, shouldn’t also find out how their local heroes are doing on the national stage. We have a number of initiatives planned for 2012 that we will be bringing to market and believe some of these techniques and partnerships will break new media ground and be of interest internationally.”

Ballywire Media has been a leader in the provision of live and on demand editorial video in Ireland having been involved in the delivery of webcasts to date for Guinness Area 22 Rugby events involving Today FM and RTE Radio 1 and delivering the first ever live webcast from Croke Park ahead of the 2011 All Ireland Senior Football Final. Ballywire also co-produces the official GAA Championship magazine show Round The Square in association with the GAA Communications department. Season specials on the 2011 Hurling and Football Seasons were broadcast on TG4 in January. The company is also digital provider for the Cadbury’s Under 21 Football Championship and took a social media award last year for the under 21 football championship.

Each week for the duration of the Six Nations video material will be harvested and edited in the Ballywire digital newsroom and published on (local Newspaper site) as soon as it becomes available.

“There is a lot of video content available on the web, but our broadcast quality unique and original Irish video material generates thousands of viewers every day and we are delighted to bring that material to visitors of (local website)” said Paul Collins.
