Woman assaulted after getting a lift
A MOUNTMELLICK woman who gave another woman a lift in her car and then assaulted her appeared before last week’s District Court.
Tina Nevin, Irishtown, Mountmellick, was charged with assault at Manor Lane, Mountmellick, on October 4 last year. The court heard from Inspector Martin Harrington that the injured party had a swollen eye and bruises to her face.
Nevin has six previous convictions.
Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said there was no history between the parties, but a personal issue arose on the night. He said that his client now appreciated she should have dealt differently with whatever perceived difficulties she felt.
“She reacted very inappropriately,” admitted Mr Meagher.
Judge Catherine Staines put the matter back to July 12 for a probation report and a victim impact statement. She also ordered compensation be paid, with a recommendation of at least €300.
