Woman passed out on street
TWO women have been put on probation for being drunk and abusive in Portlaoise.
Siobhan Maher, 7 Burach Na Habhainn, Greenmill Lane, Portlaoise, and Josephine O’Neill, 4 Townhouse, Portlaoise Road, Mountrath, were arrested at Main Street, Portlaoise, on July 15.
Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that gardaí received a call of a woman passed out on the footpath and they discovered O’Neill lying on the ground. When they helped her to her feet she became highly abusive toward the guards. Maher was also present and she too was extremely drunk and abusive. The inspector said she was directed to leave the area but she refused to do so.
Defence, Mr Philip Meagher explained that “one drink followed another” on the night and Maher was asked to leave a licensed premises after she got abusive toward a member of staff.
The matter was put back to October 4 for probation reports on both women.
