Defence Forces Bomb Disposal team

A WORLD War 1 grenade, found on a farm in Emo, was this afternoon (Thursday, February 9) defused by the Army Bomb Squad.

The grenade was discovered during excavation work at the farm, and the Defence Forces were alerted to the potentially live device by Gardaí.

The bomb squad arrived on the scene at 1.40pm and conducted a controlled explosion on the grenade. The area was declared safe at 2.05pm.

No details have of yet emerged as to how the century-old grenade came to be on the farm.
