A NAAS man who had to be pepper-sprayed following a drunken row in a Portlaoise hotel has been told to cut down his drinking by Judge Catherine Staines.

A NAAS man who had to be pepper-sprayed following a drunken row in a Portlaoise hotel has been told to cut down his drinking by Judge Catherine Staines.

Jamie O’Keefe, of Our Lady’s Place, Naas, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening behaviour in public, at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, on June 22, 2012.

Inspector Martin Harrington said gardaí were called to a fight the hotel. O’Keefe was extremely drunk and very abusive and when he was being removed, he kicked the front door of the hotel.The pepper-spray had to be used to restrain him.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said O’Keefe was at a wedding and was drinking early on the day.

Judge Staines imposed a €200 fine and warned “You need to cut down on your drinking, or quit.”
