Positive audience reaction to Port plan

there was positive reaction to the Port Vison group’s plan for the town.

Mr Willie Murphy is very optimistic about the town’s future, particularly after viewing the new ten minute promotional film, put together by local company Cardel.

“From a business point of view, they are selling Port very well. Someone from the outside world with money to spend would certainly be encouraged to come here. Anything Port ever set out to do, it was always done. In this worst economic time, they have the energy to look with enthusiasm towards the future, and set the stage for Ireland to follow,” he said.

Aidan Mullins is with community group PCDA.

“After looking at the video, I’m thinking ‘I’d like to go and live in that town,’” he said, adding that he thought the presentations were very professional.

“They had their homework done. It was food for thought. There is a lot to build on, as long as they can keep the momemtum going, and it’s not left to a few,” he said.

Kieran Kehoe of Laois County Council says the plans will be mirrored in the first joint development plan for Port, launched next month.

“This is a fabulous venture. It shows what community and business groups can do when they come together, at local and regional level. It will be emphasised by support from both local authorities,” he said.
