Portlaoise hosted Kilkenny at Togher in another round of the Leinster Cup and dominated the first half to set up a convincing 47-19 win
Kilkenny ran in the first try of the match but they failed to convert. Portlaoise won possession from the restart and the strength of the Portlaoise three quarters was on show with the ball moving rapidly through their hands to allow winger Brian Redmond score under the posts. William Reilly added the conversion.
Ahuge work rate from the forwards at the breakdown allowed quick ball through the back line which produced a brace of tries from Adam Dunne, one more from Brian Redmond and Alan Connolly but the try of the match came from prop forward Paddy Coss. All bar one of the tries were converted by William Reilly to leave Portlaoise 40-5 ahead at the break.
The second half combegan with a try from Portlaoise winger Brian Redmond who completed his hat trick under the post and Reilly converted. With the advantage of a strong wind, Kilkenny were on top but they only breeched the Portlaoise defence with two very late tries.
Portlaoise play Naas in the quarter-finals.
