Portlaoise U-15s had to travel to Dundalk in the first round of the Leinster Cup recently and after a low scoring game, earned themselves a home replay.
Dundalk got off to a great start with a breakaway try within the first five minutes which was converted. They continued the pressure for most of the first half with some great defending from the Portlaoise side keeping the out.
Portlaoise went into the half time break seven points down but they came out very strong in the second half and showed great spirit. They were held up twice on the line by a very strong Dundalk side but after being camped on the Dundalk line for also 13 minutes, Portlaoise were rewarded with a try from Dermot Joyce which Martin Ward converted from under the posts.
Portlaoise had to defend their own line for the last five minutes but despite that pressure from a very strong Dundalk side, Portlaoise held on to earn a deserved replay.
This was a good solid performance from this Portlaoise side that started the match without some of their key players in the back line.
Dundalk will now have to travel to Portlaoise on a date to be arranged for a replay of this fixture to see who goes through to the next round.
