Laois Leeds United supporters club had another very successful AGM in Kavanaghs in Portlaoise recently.

The meeting reviewed another year of, trips, guests of honour, away Laois trip and many a match viewed in the local taverns.

The group made a couple of trips to Elland Road to see the home games and a new dimension was added this year when a choice of trips was made available including an overnight stay or a day trip.

The day trip has proved popular and the first home game for Leeds United this season, against demoted Wolves, had an excellent turnout for the game.

The most recent Guest of Honour to come to Portlaoise was Gary Mc Allister. He spoke of all things ‘great and small’ about Leeds United and football in general and his knowledge of the game is second to none.

Laois Leeds also had Dominic Matteo over as a guest and again his insight to football, both in England and Ireland, was very impressive.

Club President is the legendary John Giles and he was a very special guest when he arrived in Portlaoise.

John Giles is also Patron of the ‘Walk of Dreams’ foundation, which turned out to be such a terrific success with hundreds walking to raise money for charity and this popular event will take place again this season.

Laois Leeds ran fund raisers during the season that helped raise funds to supplement the trips and for that all Leeds United supporters, and all those who supported our fund rising, are to be thanked.

Laois Leeds donated several hundreds of pounds to local charities, both in Laois and Offaly.

Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, Beccio were among others to come to Portlaoise and the club are already making enquiries for the coming season.

Laois Leeds have members from all over Laois, Kildare and Athlone and one of the highlights of the year is the ‘away’ trip to a pub outside Portlaoise to view one of the live games on television.

This year the Druid in Mountmellick was the venue and this was a tremendous success for all those involved, the hospitality offered.

The first ‘away’ trip this season will be to Mountrath and all Laois Leeds fans are already looking to that trip hope that at that stage of the season Leeds United will be well established in the chase for the Championship.

Laois Leeds will have their pontoon again this season, and for the first time they will have a ‘Bonus Ball’ draw in the Lotto every Saturday night. Members should contact Colm O Hara in All Books & News for entry. Jean O Brien was our first winner with number 12.

Those who use Facebook can follow Laois Leeds by going to LaoisLeeds to keep up with the local news and anyone who has photos of Leeds and wishes to share them on the Facebook page can send them to

The AGM again elected as Chairman, Tom Walton, Secretary, Colm O’Hara and Treasurer, Helen Breen. Tom, Colm and Helen have been at the helm since Laois Leeds were formed in 2007 and have without doubt been the main reason for the continued success of the club both at local level and with Leeds United Football club.

On board this year is Jack Mc Donald with the job as reporter, to spread the news of Laois Leeds far and wide. Membership is open to those who wish to join by contacting Colm O’Hara at All Books & News Lyster Sq Portlaoise. A text service is available and is sent to all members re games, meetings, matches on Television, Bonus Ball results and trips and all members are consulted about the choice of games to travel for, or the ‘away’ trip in Laois.

Leeds United supporters have gone through the mill in recent years and have always had faith, but perhaps this year could be the right one, with a new forceful manager, several new players, possible takeover and renewed hope, perhaps he season 2012-13 will see Leeds United back in the Premership.
