After the disapointment of last weeks cup defeat to Coil Dubh Portlaoise had a convincing the win over south Dublin side.

After the disapointment of last weeks cup defeat to Coil Dubh Portlaoise had a convincing the win over south Dublin side.

Portlaoise went 1-0 up on 16 minutes Paul Cahillane controlling a cross from the right wing before going past a defender and shooting across the keeper to score.

It went to 2-0 on 29 minutes Eoghan White shooting from close in from Alan Dunnes corner. The home keeper then made a brilliant save to keep out Niall Guilfoyle’s volley to keep his side in the game.

The second half saw an 18 minute spell where Portlaoise were to score four times Darren Rogers on 49 and again on 53 minutes with close range shots after good approach play. Brian Bowe on 60 minutes headed home an Alan Dunne corner and then on 67 minutes Jason Murphy showed some good close control before turning in the penalty area and shooting into the roof of the net.

Credit to Blackrock who pulled a goal back on 72 minutes from a header but the game’s final goal was probably the best with good passing from Luke O’Brien and Darren Rogers setting up Stephen Goggin to score from close in.

Portlaoise will be happy with their display but know there are hard games left.
