McNicholl picks up Player of the Year accolade

Aoife McNicholl, from Portlaoise, captain of the Irish Powerchair Football Squad, won the FAI Football For All International Player of the year Award on Sunday 22nd March at a ceremony broadcast live from RTE studios.

Aoife McNicholl, from Portlaoise, captain of the Irish Powerchair Football Squad, won the FAI Football For All International Player of the year Award on Sunday 22nd March at a ceremony broadcast live from RTE studios.

She is pictured with John O’Shea who won the Senior International Player of the Year at the same ceremony.

Aoife, who is in her second year of studies at Dublin City University, played very successfully with the local Midlands United Club for a number of years and currently plays for the DCU Storm Club in the Association of Irish Powerchair Football’s (AIPF) National League.

Also playing at the club is another Portlaoise girl, Emer O’Sullivan and with only a few games remaining DCU Storm are presently top of the league table. Aoife was a member of Ireland’s World Cup squad in 2011 and captained the Irish squad at the 2014 European Nations Cup.
