Mountmellick’s Clare Conlon will have the honour of representing Ireland this weekend when she lines up with the Irish Colleges ladies soccer team for the Keele International Cup in Stoke-on-Trent, England
Clare, who plays with Benfica FC in Waterford and with the Waterford IT senior team, has been rewarded for the excellent form both with her college and during the trial games which have been held over the last few months. Clare will be joined on the team by fellow club and class mate Maria Delahunty.
Robin Croke, WIT Clubs and Societies Officer congratulated the students’ achievements. “I know from talking to both of the girls that to be able to wear the Irish jersey in competitive action is a source of great personal pride for them. Their selection highlights the quality of players currently playing with the WIT ladies team with two of our players making the 18 player squad. On behalf of WIT, I wish both of the girls the best of luck for the competition and in their future careers.”
Clare, is a fourth year Recreation and Leisure student, and as well as being a talented soccer player, was captain of the victorious Ladies Football team who won the Giles Cup for WIT back in March.
