CCFL DIVISION 1

Abbeyleix Athletic 2

Ballinahown 1

It was far from their best performance of the season but this was all about the result and the hosts held their nerve to secure the hard-fought victory.

A section of that large crown was made up of Stradbally Town’s squad who had made the short trip in hope of witnessing a surprise result. Had the game ended all square the two Laois sides would have had to decide top spot by way of a playoff, while an unlikely win for the Westmeath men would have meant that Stradbally got their hands on the silverware.

In the end it was irrelevant. Abbeyleix bossed this game from start to finish and although a late goal from one of their only attacks made for a nail-biting final few minutes, Athletic held on to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the impressive young squad and their management team.
