The Laois International Golf Challenge takes at golf clubs around the county from May 16th – 19th.
This International challenge has been running for the past eleven years and has grown from strength to strength each year. The golf challenge has attracted golfers from Northern Ireland, England, Wales, Italy, and Sweden. In 2015 a golfers group from Malta participated in the event.
It is a fourball, betterball competition (any combination) and appeals to golfers and golfing societies from all over Europe. There are prizes each day and overall prizes for the winners. There is also entertainment organised in the evenings so it is a great social outing.
Each year a range of festivals and events are planned and supported across the County and this event is now one of the major one’s in the calendar year.
Sponsors of the event are “Daybreak” part of the Musgrave Group and Downey’s Auto Stop Portlaoise, who sponsor the Hole in One prize on the final day. The event is also supported by Fáilte Ireland and Laois County Council.
The four day event is played at various golf clubs in the county and the final takes place at the Heritage Golf Club at Killenard.
The 2016 Laois International Golf Challenge was officially launched on Friday February 5th in the Heritage Golf Club, by Irish Professional Golfer Gary Murphy.
For golfers who cannot participate in the four day Challenge, there are individual days available
on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The entry fee for 2016 is €125 (Stg£100) per person and this includes 4 days golf and invites to the Prize Giving ceremony in the Heritage Golf Club at Killenard. It promises to be an excellent week with great entertainment.
