Laois 0-8

Mayo 1-11

Justin McNulty’s side were facing an uphill battle to remain in Division 1 before a ball was even kicked in 2012, and after Saturday night’s result, the harsh realities of that prediction were there for all to see. Having four of the seven games at home gave Laois a slight advantage, but if they can’t produce better performances than this on their home soil, then they will be in trouble no matter where they play.

Laois only started one player who did not feature at any stage last year - corner forward David Conway - but there were a number of positional switches as McNulty tries to come up with a winning formula. On the evidence of this game however, this setup isn’t the answer.
